Rip First Systems
There are significant yield improvements to be had in rip first
systems. Especially in the longer lengths.
However, the least talked about advantage of rip first is material
control.
Because the lengths are determined at the optimizing saw, the counts
are accurate. When the optimizing saw tells you that it has cut 200
pieces of a certain part number, the quantity is accurate.
This ability has allowed one major manufacturer to reduce cutting
time and inventory on the rough mill floor by three days.
Exact quantities at the time they are required, without over cuts and
shortages, in combination with reduced lead times and reduced
inventory make the rip first system the number one way to improve
profits in the woodworking factory.
This page will address a new topic at the first of each month.
